Fuel pump won’t stop pumping
I’m getting so close to finally syncing and riding this bike but as I went to sync it it stopped running and I noticed fuel pouring out of the main jet and out the back of the carb flooded the rear cylinder too. I took the carb off replaced the float sealing components and measured the float height but it’s still flooding, is it possible my fuel pump went bad? It was working fine before, maybe it’s possible the battery wasn’t 100% charged? Not sure

Re: Fuel pump won’t stop pumping
We might need some more info, but..
A low battery will not cause that.
The only thing preventing flooding is the float valve, If you checked/replaced the needle and seat...The next thing to look at is the float itself. If it has a hole in it and there is gas inside, it can't float. Needs replacing.

Re: Fuel pump won’t stop pumping
The only way a carb can flood is because fuel is somehow getting past the float valve. Sticking / sinking float, bad o-ring or bad valve.
The fuel pump keeps going until it gets back pressure - then it stops.

You don’t think it’s possible the pump could be broken and not stop when it gets back pressure?

Never seen that. They go the other way (IE: stop working).Deedubforum wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 1:15 pmYou don’t think it’s possible the pump could be broken and not stop when it gets back pressure?
If you want to rule that out though - remove the fuel hose from the carb and close it off. Pump should stop.
The pump is low pressure (about 3 psi) so you can stop the flow with your thumb over the hose outlet.

Re: Fuel pump won’t stop pumping
Okay well I’m left with no option but to take the carb off again and check the float components again, how can I know for sure it’s sealing properly? Just by visual inspection?hillsy v2 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 1:21 pmNever seen that. Re: Fuel pump won’t stop pumping
Okay so I took it apart and luckily the float is sealed perfectly and all the components still look fine, so I’m thinking I must’ve measured the float height incorrectly it was my first time I’ll try again though, it seems like it’s working If I tip the carb right side up and cover the other fuel nipple(toward front carb) I can stop my own pressure by moving the float up so that means it’s working right?hillsy v2 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 1:21 pmNever seen that. Re: Fuel pump won’t stop pumping
As you can see it’s set at exactly 1.1 inches with the calipers which for a 94vs800 rear carb is within spec

Did you replace the o-ring under the valve seat? If it's leaking there the float won't stop it.

Do you mean this o ring? It’s the only one my rebuild kit came with so yes it’s also been replaced unless theirs another one?

That's the one. Are you sure it's not leaking?

Re: Fuel pump won’t stop pumping
Pretty positive but I have a o-ring kit might as well change it b4 I throw it back on the bike I’ll let y’all know what I find when I try again

Re: Fuel pump won’t stop pumping
So I think the float height was the issue it’s not flooding so now is just a matter of figuring out how to sync them hopefully it stays unflooded

Re: Fuel pump won’t stop pumping
So for a while there it wasn’t leaking fuel anymore but I went to start it tonight and it started again i don’t think there’s any way it’s the carb I rlly have checked everything twice, is it possible one of the fuel lines isn’t 100% tight and the small amount leaking is keeping the pump from turning off? I just genuinely have looked at everything but no matter what I do when I crank it I see fuel pouring out of the back

Re: Fuel pump won’t stop pumping
Pouring out the back of the carb? Have you got the fuel hose connected to the right inlet? Maybe you have it connected to the breather?Deedubforum wrote: ↑Fri Nov 03, 2023 7:37 pmSo for a while there it wasn’t leaking fuel anymore but I went to start it tonight and it started again i don’t think there’s any way it’s the carb I rlly have checked everything twice, is it possible one of the fuel lines isn’t 100% tight and the small amount leaking is keeping the pump from turning off? Otherwise there's only one way fuel can pour out like that - it's getting past the float valve.

If the fuel pump was running you would hear it kick on and off.
If you have any type of electrical issue, have your battery load tested before you do anything else. Any auto parts store will test it for free.

Okay this is a long shot but i put these white rubber caps on the random little nipples I could see I’ll ad a pic below, you think it’s possible they are affecting it?hillsy v2 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 03, 2023 7:57 pmPouring out the back of the carb? I don’t see how something like this could do all that but it’s the only think I can think of that’s not stock

They are the breather ports and need to be unplugged.
