Vacuum Operated Fuel Pump...
So I think I'm going to give this vacuum pump a go and see how it works out. Tilos has done it and I'm just wondering if I have to get the vacuum off of the rear carb or can I just t-off of the front vacuum line at the boost sensor?

Re: Vacuum Operated Fuel Pump...
Except under heavy throttle when the vacuum drops. Dont see why it wouldnt work
You may want to consider a storage vessel with a one way check valve though

I checked your link
It seems the pump you posted is a Pulse pump and using a stored vacuum source wont work. It was recommended for 20hp application and you may need to prime the pump to get it to work.
Also single carb applications
It seems they work great in small out board motor boats
And while I was on Amazon I ordered an Air powered Vacuum and a Hood prop
Let us know what you figured out

Re: Vacuum Operated Fuel Pump...
If I may, given that the 1400's Carbs need priming to get it started (often quite a bit),...and that there's virtually zero vacuum to activate this pump ( until the motor is actually running) to prime them, I see this as not such a good idea.

Re: Vacuum Operated Fuel Pump...
I don't recall... Did the vs800 need priming?
I'll have to ask Tilos what he used this pump on then.
What are my other options then aside from the expensive OEM?

Re: Vacuum Operated Fuel Pump...
I had a little 250 Hyosung in the garage a while back that had one of those. I was surprised it worked but we are talking 250cc.
I think it will prime OK if there is some gravity feed - hence why it was OK on the Hyosung and will probably prime on the smaller Intruders if you have a (close to) full tank. Won't work on the 1500 with the tank below the carb level (under the seat).
Let us know how it goes.

Re: Vacuum Operated Fuel Pump...
IIRC,...the 800 runs virtually identical Carbs as does the 1400. So the idea that the motor being smaller displacement will not have any effect on the need to prime them well before cranking.BRONX INTRUDER wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 3:22 pmI don't recall... Re: Vacuum Operated Fuel Pump...
You can get cheap fuel pumps on eBay. I've used heaps on different bikes - some don't last that long but others have. Quality can be variable at times but they're cheap enough to buy two and carry a spare....

Re: Vacuum Operated Fuel Pump...
Since there isn't a whole heckuva lotta space to spare in the 800,...I would think it wisest to use a Pump that fits into the Stock Mounting Bracket.

Re: Vacuum Operated Fuel Pump...
Shouldn't matter if the pump has a built in bend or not - either get some flexible hose or use a 90 deg bend after the pump.
I'm sure you can work it out.
Curious to hear about the vacuum pump and if it works here though

Re: Vacuum Operated Fuel Pump...
Same thing about Spare Space pretty much applies for the 1400 also.
There isn't alotta space beyond where the Stock Fuel Pump is Set Up.
Not to mention that the Mounting Bracket is right there,...ready and waiting for a Stock Pump to fill it in! Plug in a be Riding again.

Re: Vacuum Operated Fuel Pump...
I got one of these generics for a small Mitsu or Nissan made in Japan about UD$ 30. All I had to do was to cut off the mounting ears and it fit perfectly.
Grow old disgracefully young man.
