I recently bought an '88 Intruder 750. I figured out how to remove the side covers and then the seat, but the side covers have scratched up the frame from going on and off. I think I saw a video of a different way of taking off the seat starting at the back rest, but I can't find it now.
So, how do I remove the backrest, and where is the tool kit located on an '88 750?
Thanks,

There should be a tool box under the backrest pad. The pad just pulls off, exposing a key lock, which opens with the ignition key.

Thanks, I was just coming back to post that I figured out that the pad just pulls off. Unfortunately, my ignition key doesn't fit that lock. Fortunately, the key from my Virago does fit and unlocks it. Kinda sucks that I'll need 2 keys, but it is what it is.

Be warned - many of us have kicked that pad off when throwing a leg over, and lost it on the side of a road. I tied a loose string to mine, and dropped the other end, threaded through a washer, in the tool box. Never lost another.

Thanks for the warning, although mine is on there pretty tight. I tried to pull it off before I posted, but it wouldn't come off without more force than I felt safe using and I didn't want to break anything.

Are you wanting to remove the entire backrest? Or were you just looking to find your toolkit?Brizzman wrote:I recently bought an '88 Intruder 750.
