I was helping a friend with their forks yesterday and there was a PVC spacer that someone put between the top of the spring and the cap. I guess this was put there to make the spring stiffer?

It could be he has after-market springs, like Progressive, that require a different length spacer; it is very common for someone to cut a length of schedule 40 pipe to be that spacer.

+1, if it was about 3" long, they were probably Progressive springs.

Thanks for help, I don't think it was anything special, just looked like a small piece of pvc. Prob more like 2 inches long.
