Oil leaks on vs800

Post by L9601710l »

Hey y'all! I got a 2000 vs800 that's leaking oil pretty good. It appears to be coming from around the shifter. I'm assuming there is a seal back there somewhere? Is this a common problem, or is there something else that could be leaking? Thanks!

Yes, there is a shaft seal, #31 on this drawing: http://www.partsoutlaw.com/oemparts/a/s ... r-shifting
You need to clean the area well, perhaps spray it with a white powder, to see where the oil is really from, as oil can be tricky. For example, it could be leaking around the clutch slave, and seeping over to the shifter.

Thank you very very much for the much needed info!!!! I'll replace that seal along with cleaning everything off really good and keep an eye out for more leaks. Should be easier to spot when's it's not all caked up everywhere lol. Thanks again!
