Help with relay connection

Post by KingMusa »

I have a strange problem here and I need urgent help. I could not find a similar thread here, apologies if it exists

My Intruder VS400 "main" relay socket is missing, and wires were cut off. Now I'm struggling to figure out which wire goes to which point of the relay.

I have the following wires:
Orange/Yellow (x2)
Black/Red
Green

My replacement relay is a standard 4 pin with the points 30/85/86/87

The plan is to connect a new relay socket, but I don't want to ruin the whole electronic setup

If you have any type of electrical issue, have your battery load tested before you do anything else. Any auto parts store will test it for free.

All of my wiring diagrams are for the 800 and the 1400. I don't know how close they would be.
I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.

I thought VS400 was just a type-o. Was there ever a VS400?

From reading about it I don't think it was ever imported to the US. It appears to be mostly Japanese but one poster said that some have been imported to Pacific Rim countries.

Since it is the same frame as the 700/750/800, the 800 manual shoud work for everything except engine specs.

Yes. :space: The Model had only a 3 year production run (1994-1996)

What is the "main relay" in question? If we're talking the starter relay a normal switching relay won't work.

My gratitude to all the members who responded and for information shared, especially email from Bron. Much appreciated

The bike in Question is indeed a VS400, rare find in South Africa. It's framed similar to the 700/750/800

I'm also learning that the relay in question is the Starter Relay, and apparently it cannot be replaced by a standard 4pin relay

Thank you again for all the help and information

Are you sure it is the starter relay and not the fuel pump relay?

Good Point there, Lechy. :space: When I went back and re-read the Original Message, there certainly is that possibility. :space: it could be he is missing the Neutral Start Relay

Say KingMusa, could you take a picture of the wires you have that are cut off? :space: And also, a picture of the general vicinity around them please?

Or,.....here is a Starter Relay for an 800 Intruder.,......can you tell if you have this unit, or something similar?
