Vs750/800 with a vs1400 rear swingarm ?

Post by Anthony5900 »

Hello i was wondering will a vs1400 rear swing arm and wheel bolt onto the vs750/800 frame and line up correctly for the shaft without any modifications...?

From what i can gather the engine width is the same so the shaft posistion is the same for both the 800 and the 1400....

All i want to do it for is the bigger tyre and the disk brake so ill have easier mods for my forward controls...

Thanks Aj

Not directly, requires heavy modification to the 1400 swingarm. Has been attempted, but I've yet to see successful results posted in the 7 years I've been hanging around these guys.

Ok so there has to be mods.... in what way does it need to be modded do you know dude ?

As long a i dont have to mod the frame im good as then i can just bolt the 750 rear end back on and ignore the failure if i tried it lol.

That's where you'd have to experiment. There's no walk though I can give you. There's going to be a lot of measuring to figure out what you have to do to make it fit and track right. If it was easy, everyone would have done it. I've never seen successful pics of it done, never.

I'd say you're pretty much on your own. On the plus side, they're fairly cheap.

I dont think ill take on the task then.... im not exactly brilliant at fabricating and such stuff yet few more years of little mods and ill try my luck on somthing like this then....

I do how ever want to make some custom pipes that just come out of the head and straight down to the floor slash cut and a slight flick out.....

I was surfin YouTube the other day for VS800 videos, and I came across this:

I can't read the German, but I'm pretty sure that says "VS800 Special" and "VS1400 swingarm" and a tire size, 170/80-15
No other comments seem to be given. Someone posted a comment on the video in english asking about the swap (a few days ago actually) but no response yet.

If he did and it is, it didn't incorporate one benefit of adding the 1400 swingarm, which is a rear disc brake. For an extra 20mm wider tire over what you can achieve stock, it wouldn't be worth the hassle.

Now, if you were to say do it for disc brakes and 205 DS tire, now you're talking.

Still probably cheaper and easier to just buy a 1400.

Maybe the drum rear is what made the swap possible for the guy? Curious as to what has to be modified. Regardless, sounds like a PITA, but the 170 does look sweet!
And you can put a 205 on a stock VS1400 swingarm?

Only a darkside 205. I think a 180 is the widest for a motorcycle tire.

IS there a lot of modification that has to be done to put a rear disc brake on a vs800? could you just use the parts from a 1400?
