NY is a great place to ride.

Post by n-trude »

I know most think NY City, when they think of NY.

But its a great place to ride, I had a chance to see some of it
on the way to Nova Scotia, and on the way home. I liked the
mountains, rivers, and the north part of the state a lot.
Lake Placid area, was super. So if you can some day plan
a route, to see some of this great state. You will be surprised.

Going to take the grandson, on a road trip to Cooperstown NY.,
next summer and see some baseball stadiums on the way.. [emoji2]

Have you made a trip around NY Vt. NH. ?

I try to go around most any big city. One stop light towns or one four way are ok but one lane bridges and cattle crossing are far better IMO. Most any state has some good roads but some far more, like Kentucky [emoji106] .

Ya know how your cross over the 1000 Islands bridge and take I-81 south and eventually get to Watertown? Well, that's where I grew up from ages 0-18.

Next time you go on about how cold you have it in Canada, and how jealous you are about how great I have it in sunny Florida, remember from whence I came.

And then go back and throw some salt on your driveway. :fu:

Just came back from a trip down to Pennsylvania and upstate New York. Stayed our last night in Watertown at the Inn on 81. Great place to stay and reasonable rates. Rode down 219 to 6 in Pennsylvania and came back up through the finger lakes. Lots of nice roads in both states. Planning the next trip now.

You are right NY is a beautiful state and lots of country and county roads to ride! My wife and I spend at least 2 weeks every year in the Plattsburgh area of upstate. Ride all over and have been doing this for more than 10 years! Wonderful place to spend a few weeks in the summer. Have made a lot of friends we look forward to seeing every summer, some ride, some do not! Also must try soft serve in a cone, always enjoy sandwich and softserve @ "The Happy Pike" in West Chazy, NY on the shores of Lake Champlain. FB page https://www.facebook.com/happypike/ . There are so many great places to visit. Wife spent some of her growing-up years in the area and she loves to go back every summer! Could tell about a lot of places to ride and visit!

N-Trude, if you take that trip with your grandson (which would be wonderful) - take him to Watkins Glen and visit the Watkins Glen gorge. Not too far from Cooperstown! It is truly an awesome place to go and walk up the gorge. Of course you should be in fit shape. I wasn't sure I could do the whole thing, but managed by resting quite a few times. Rode a bus back down!

I have spent a lot of time in the Fort Drum area over the last few years and upstate NY is really a nice area in the summer. I would suggest stopping at Sackets Harbor near Watertown. It is a great historical spot to spend the night. Don't miss the Brew Pub if you are there.
