OMG 2015

Post by MadCow »

Who from here is going? Currently, I'm in. I'll decide in the next week or so if I want to camp or get a room. Maybe I should make my reservations now?

Anyhoo...my son graduates on the 16th of May...I'm shooting to leave the 17th...be there on the 20th easy.

All that hinges on me getting a touring bike...I'd literally fall off my VROD when I got there if I tried to ride it there.

I guess I don't blame ya. I've never ridden an actual touring bike, I can say, they are probably very nice to ride. The closest I've been to a luxury liner was my Guzzi. That bike was a pretty good ride at the time. Couldn't compare to anything now days though.

I'm going to try and make it this year, but I have said that other years and never made it out of the yard. With the bike back I'll have to see if there is anything wrong with it before I say for sure I am going. And then there is the smaller trailer I want to build to take up there and sleep in. I probably have too many irons in the fire right now to say I will be there. :bang:

My wife's birthday is 5/25 plus my father in law asked us to come back up to MS around that same time. Would I be shamed to no end if I trailered the Intruder up there? I suppose I could trailer it to MS and then ride to Arkansas. I have to mull this over before saying yay or nay.
The dates are 20-24 MAY

There is NO shame in trailering, I mean really...you gotta do what you gotta do. Trailer it to MS, I'll meet you there and ride with you and DC1. If my plans come together, I'll be leaving here the 17th.

Real bikers pull trailers with their bikes. Not pull trailers for their bikes.

I will never understand trailering a bike unless moving... LoL

I can see if you have long distances to go and short time then sometimes it makes sense to trailer so as to not be toast when you get there. There will be plenty of riding while you are there. Plus you might need to have energy to stay on top of the game.

Yes but there is always unusual circumstances that come into play...
My sweet wife loves to ride, and she 's been on several long distance rides with me along with other couples...Arkansas, North Carolina, Tennessee and the Texas Hill Country to name a few...but lately her shoulders have been giving her fits on rides over 150 to 200 miles in length.. So a few years back I bought us a 10' x 7' 6" two wheel trailer that suits our needs for long distance trips and on occasion I will ride my bike if other folks are doing the same and it has worked out really well...there was on trip in particular that comes to mind when a rider that was with us experienced a flat tire in Texas... no problem we just ran it up on the trailer and went to the nearest Harley shop..and no one was inconvenienced in any way [emoji106]
So there are circumstances that come into play when hauling your bike from destination to another....There was more than one time where I wished I had had a trailer to load my bike on instead of riding in an all day rain..

Sure all have reasons to haul or not,or pull or not.I will go to a closer meet or trip before I think about hauling.Over half the time the ride to,like Sturgis SD is as good or sometimes far better than the big meet going to.Datona is trailer Queen city IMO but more every year.Same ones that ride at all the blocked off red lights etc things and feel so VIP about it.Do what makes ya happy  .Like my good friend on a ratted out 79 XLH said in 1990 on our three bike all camp gear on bikes and no chase. He had gave the old ironhead with 60,000 on it a top end the day before we pulled out.On the four lane to Sturgis we were a little over the posted when a new crew cab with windows rolled up and four Harleys that looked like new in tow passed us.From inside the cab they were waving big at us and giving thumbs up.He flipped them off [emoji2] .At next stop he still was hot as it was hot [emoji2] ."They think they are like us ,"he said."Just a bunch of posers"! :lmao:

I can't see the mentality of this posers verse real bikers. :donno: If you ride daily in heat, cold, snow, snot or whatever... You might just be the weekend warriors or whenever you can make it happen in your life... makes no difference to me. Tolerance for all is a handy virtue. :HatTip:
