Apparently the rough amount of memory storage needed to contain a "virtual" computer model of a human brain, down to individual cells, synapses, receptors, etc.
They've done it for the entire brain of a very simple worm, and that took 12 terabytes of data.
The question posed in the article I was reading was that supposing you DID create such a 3-D virtual map of an individual person's brain, and then were able to simulate the actions of each of these parts biologically, in theory it should behave as that person would, and contain their memories, habits, personality, etc.
At that point, is it them, or just a really good imitation?
Star Trek predicted this. I wager 500 quatloos on the newcomer. [emoji2] Forget brains in jars though. We'll be brains on mass storage devices. Really big ones.

I don't think it would take that much for mine... 'cause I'm smaller.jeffcoslacker wrote: Two million terabytes to clone a human brain...

I've heard it said the camera adds 10 lbs so does the computer take off 10 lbs? [space]Cuban wrote:Cuban wrote: I don't think it would take that much for mine... Now back to the topic of the thread. Two million terabytes for a worm and less for the worm from canada named cuban. My money would be on the real worm from canada. [space] My reason why... simple he/it uses less brain power.
At the rate we are going you will be able to put a terabyte on a pin head in a few decades. So IA's should be just around the corner. [emoji106]

[emoji2] What if we placed those complex storage devices within very well built robotic structures resembling the human form? Let's call 'em Androids, but operating with our own thoughts, our own memories, etc. instead of A I. I'd say that if I found myself in one of these things, but felt like I was still me, I'd think I had a new and improved body. In this scenario, we could finally consider travel to far off worlds, eh? "Turning all of the world's computing hardware into minds as efficient as humans' would produce around 50 million extra minds, increasing the world's effective population by about 1%."
