Why my mom called me Johnny

My first name is John, but I was always called Johnny even by my mom. Hell, my first SS card even had Johnny on it. Mom had to remind me that Johnny wasn't my first name. So one day in my early twenties I asked my mom why she always called me Johnny and not John and her answer was " Because John is a four letter word." [space] [space]

My legal name is Jimmy. I went through life constantly correcting documents and people about my name because everyone assumed my legal name was James. [space]

My legal name is "Johnny" but most snail mail I receive is addressed as "John"....I am assuming everyone thinks that Johnny is a nickname for John
which it is not..........
My real nicknames are JB & Deuce ..
My dear and sweet Wife has always used the signage "JOHN-JOHN" to sign my birthday and our anniversary cards
because that's what my dear Mother called me her whole life.

When I was a little boy, (no, not yesterday ), I always had to answer when my father, and my older sister called me George. I have no f'kn idea why they called me George, but they did. Both of them, but only them. It was hard enough for an immature, freckle-faced red headed short little boy to figure out who he was, without those bastards tryin' to fuck with me by using the wrong name, but they did. I think that lasted into my early teens...

Cuban, my dad's name was Frankie Howard and he was always called Bill. When dad died I was 9 and thought his name was Bill. I even had a cousin that named his son Bill after my dad. We never did learn why he was called Bill and anyone that might know is now dead so we will never know. I guess you could say we were a strange family.

I have always been called Johnny by those close to me. Coworkers know me as John and I shall keep it that way. Also I have always know what a nickname was and that I indeed had one. A now retired clerk at my company called me Walt, after my Uncle who had worked there in years past, and that clerk had known him. Of course concerning Uncle Walt....we in the family call him Doug....after his middle name! My SO I call by her given name because I happen to think it's beautiful....her siblings call her "minnie mouse"
