If I was to make a guess I would bet it was a gov. planner that decided to make it happen on a Monday. Probably hoping for another Monday gov. holiday.

opps, need to add I will be home wishing I was someplace else. :bonk:

Taking the day off. It's about 3.5 hours away. I picked a spot out in the middle of nowhere to avoid the crowds flocking to the towns. With my luck it will be cloudy or something but we're giving it a shot...

Got my camera ready... [emoji2]
Excellent! Hope you have a great viewing. [emoji106]

You would be in my old stomping grounds.
That is close to one of my favorite places... Tonanzios Restaurant. However, I have heard that they are no longer in business.
I knew a woman whose father used to run the funeral home in Guthrie. Might have to look her up.
Don't know if it will be as the local news is depicting with traffic jams on all highways leading in or out of the area. I have heard the state is treating that day as if a natural disaster has occured! :uhh:
Oh well might just have to stay home and go to work as usual. :bonk:

I've been hearing that all over...I just don't see THAT many people getting jazzed up enough about it to actually inconvenience themselves and go somewhere to see it. Plus by and large they don't seem to grasp that the difference between being, say, here in the Springfield area, and being dead nuts in the path up near Guthrie is only a few fleeting seconds and a very slim difference in what you'll see. It's gonna be neat anywhere NEAR (hundreds of miles) in either direction north-south of the totality track...really the only reason the totality is so impressive is kinda nerdy...you get to look at the corona for a minute or two. Normally you'd need an artificial filter to view it.

But pretty much anywhere you are that day, it will get oddly dark, it will seem strange, animals don't like it, and a chunk of the sun will go missing for a bit

I have 3 pairs of "eclipse glasses" from Lowe's for myself, wife and grand kid. [space] [emoji106]

At $1.98 a pair (for paper glasses), Lowe's missed a great opportunity. We had about a thousand pairs and sold out in a matter of a few days once word got out that we had them. School teachers and other school officials are buying them by the hundreds and we get phone calls daily asking if we have them. The Lowes corporate suits are desperately pushing vendors to get us more of them. We could be selling a thousand pairs a day.

[emoji106] Bonnie Tyler. Yeah, I liked her stuff. Butt she's kind of a sore spot with me and Keith... I was in Florida when we had an unfortunate incident...

My glasses were recalled by Amazon. Fuck it. Too late now! I can get new retinas.

Wait. No I can't.

Well hell.

Screw it. I'm using them.

I also have a Takata airbag in front of me every time I drive.

And "they" told me I'd get instant frostbite from handling dry ice. "They" were wrong.

I'm a risk-taker, baby. A total badass. [emoji41]

You mean you don't get instant frostbite from handling dry ice? :bang:

Does that mean I can stick my tongue to it also? :Umm: [space] :OhNo;

No telling where I will be, but I bet if it gets dark I'll look up at the sun to see what is going on.

Absolutely. I'll buy if you wanna prove it. [emoji2]

Maybe it's just my hands. I can handle really hot stuff too. Because badass [emoji2] . And handling hot stuff for years as a mechanic. I usually smell or hear that my finger is burning before I feel it.

I freak out my young coworkers in the warehouse, when I wrap pallets I don't use gloves, just run around it spooling out wrap with the roll spinning in my hands. They try it and get burns/blisters. One asked me how I can do it. I said "One day, Alan, you will become a man, and..."

That's as far as I got before "FUCK you..." and he walked away... :lmao:

There's actually a shortage of solar glasses right now. Apparently people waited until the last minute to order them. I sold a few of my spares to a couple people at work... right after I chewed them out for waiting till the last minute. :lolfall: My sister in Portland say's there's a panic out there for these things...

Image

Also Amazon is refunding money to anyone who bought solar glasses from them, if the manufacturer can't provide documentation their product meets certain standards. They sent me a note saying I was getting a full refund and there's no need to send them back. I already tried them out and they're plenty dark. I can imagine Amazon is preparing for a wave of lawsuits from people looking at the sun.

Citing safety concerns, Amazon offers refunds on some solar eclipse glasses

If I was already blind, I might try filing a lawsuit...
