DF, the district policy was any material that could be controversial had to go through the principal for approval. The teacher didn't get approval. My guess is that she didn't believe that it was controversial given what she was showing, classical art.

You say it's classical art and should be allowed but should classical art depicting orgy's be allowed for 3rd graders? What about satanic ritual art? What about classical art depicting pedophilia? These are all real examples of some classical art. At what point should the parents be informed? Drag Queens consider their act a form of art. Just because something is art does not always make it right and even if it is right for college students it may not be for 5th graders.
I suspect the teacher may have been involved in some form of grooming before the law and the parents just used this new law to get rid of the teacher.

You are correct that parents are entitled to know what their children are learning in school and I am sure classical Greece is a vital part of learning, along with exposure to similarity and difference in cultural stories. If young Americans are to understand the roots of democracy, that's the place to start. God forbid that the students are exposed to David. Our union just issued the results from the impasse.

Since our superintendent refused us teachers any raises, despite what's been promised years ago with the step-process, so our union demanded it go to impasse.

We've all been waiting for 2 months and the result was finally given. According to the magistrate the district owes us the 2-step bump for salaries (because we've been two years behind at this point) and teachers will receive one year difference of the pay raise hopefully by the end of April. It's nothing more than a few hundred dollars (and it's taxed of course) but, I guess, it beats nothing.

I'd still trade it for a wooden paddle and the legal rights to use it!
