hillsy I don't know why you play along with him. You know he's going to enter a post right behind you and start a bunch of crap. He does it EVERY time and drags the post straight into the toilet. He's the resident instigator and we'd probably all be better off just ignoring him. I don't know how many folks he needs to drive off before someone puts a foot down.

Yeah, daily driver, if you work CLOSE to home.Overkill777 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 1:55 pmThey are not for long distance travel, obviously.Herb wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 5:51 pmI just made a 3 day round trip of over 1000 miles. 400 + miles up, over 200 miles while there, and over 450 miles home because the shortest way was closed because of wild fires. I went over a number of passes higher than 5000 ft with a lot of 5.5-6% grade, electric cars use power FAST on that kind of driving.Overkill777 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 4:28 pmI don't give a shit about the environmental impact or the efficiency but if you've never driven an electric car you should try it. The instantaneous torque is awesome. Very impressive acceleration. I would own one if they were affordable.
Don't get me wrong I love engines.
The trip would have been fucking IMPOSSIBLE with one of the electric cars.
Passed a POS Tesla on I-5 just south of Chico. He was towing a "personal watercraft" at less than 50 miles an hour in a 70 zone, had traffic all screwed up.
BTW, I have driven a Prius, the acceleration is not anywhere near as good as my Equinox. The ones with the acceleration run out of juice REALLY quickly if you start using it.
Electric cars are an answer to a question that should never have been ask, let alone answered.
But for a daily driver it could make sense for some people.
I drove a Tesla. There is no comparison there to a Prius.
My trip out was 345 miles and I did a lot of 70 mph driving, on 2 lane roads, with a 55 mph limit on trucks and vehicles towing so I passed a lot of vehicles, like I said before there were numerous passes that I went over that had steep grades on them, plus we ran the AC for the whole trip. On top of that, the damn Teslas don't have enough room for everything we took, including the wheelchair for my granddaughter who just had knee surgery and her leg was in a brace that held it straight out.
BTW, from my home to Medford Oregon there is NO quick charge station. It would take me 2 days to get there instead of the 12 hours I actually took.
The whole trip was over 1000 miles and I averaged 25.9 mpg, real mpg, not the crap the lying computer spits out. This trip would have taken a minimum of 5 days to complete, probaly closer to 6 days, with a Tesla adding 2-3 nights of hotel rooms.
The only way one of these things would work is if you have a 2nd vehicle, gasoline, for trips.
https://fealey.co.uk/ev-transport/what- ... 3-s-x/1060
Add to that the cost of a Tesla, not even considering the replacement of batteries... I paid $17,000 for a 2 year old Equinox Premier, the top of the line for them with 70,000 miles on it, I now have over 100,000 miles on it. A Tesla costs between $40,000 and $146,000 new...
Guess which one is the best buy and least expensive to drive?
Don't give me ANY crap about them making good daily drivers.
I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.

Re: DIFFERENT VIEWS ON ELECTRIC CARS
They DO make good daily drivers for people that commute short distances. If you don't do that, then maybe not.....at the moment...
Horses for courses Herb - you wouldn't ride a trials bike across the country but you wouldn't try and jump over rocks on a Road King either.

Re: DIFFERENT VIEWS ON ELECTRIC CARS
Yup, good points made there about long distance travel, Overkill777. As is what Suzuki Johnny posted about getting stuck in a Winter Traffic Jam for even Local Driving. All it takes is a driver who didn't have a full charge before getting stuck in traffic. If they had a REAL car, all it would take would be a quick "recharge" of gas from a Gas Can, and they are good to go. Which can be carried in their trunk, like I do in winter.Overkill777 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 1:55 pmThey are not for long distance travel, obviously.Herb wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 5:51 pmI just made a 3 day round trip of over 1000 miles. 400 + miles up, over 200 miles while there, and over 450 miles home because the shortest way was closed because of wild fires. Re: DIFFERENT VIEWS ON ELECTRIC CARS
Maybe you can offer your immense wisdom and insights to the bunch of car manufacturers that are phasing out ICE engines in the next ten years or so? I'm sure they could use someone with your unbridled foresight..

Had you READ the article,...you would have seen this;
"The car makers planning to go all-electric"
As in,...it hasn't happened yet.
Like I pointed out,...and you desperately want to ignore

Predictions have so very often proved wrong.

Again,...we see you accuse others of what you are doing.
It doesn't work, Tim. Everyone sees what you are doing .....as has been pointed out quite clearly several times now.

Actually you are fooling yourself Little Designer.
The PROBLEM you have is PROOF in EVIDENCE. You see YOU were gone for a bit, and discussion, debate, and good old conversation took place.
UNFORTUNATELY you came back and started the SAME bickering and dragging every post into the toilet.
Sorry, but your cards been punched and EVERYONE has seen it.

Without any facts to back what he says up....all we see from him is Even More Baseless Accusation and Unsubstantiated Hyperventilation.Tbeck wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 12:30 pmActually you are fooling yourself Little Designer.

And you can tell he knows it,...why is because he stoops to the level of shouting....just like a child does when they don't get their way and throw a Temper Tantrum.

Re: DIFFERENT VIEWS ON ELECTRIC CARS
As a daily driver, I am not paying over $40,000 for a car I can't even take out of town. Seems outright STUPID to even think that makes any sense.

Re: DIFFERENT VIEWS ON ELECTRIC CARS
Right now if you want an electric car to travel across the country it's not practical. But that will change in the next 15 years when ICE engines are phased out by most manufacturers.
My guess is most people here won't be driving in 15 years so it's kinda moot.
