Soft riding shocks

Post by wj_hurd »

Hey guys! Long time no post!
So this year I have come to realize my age, I need a more comfortable ride. The road joints are kicking my ass.
Do you guys have any suggestions for rear shocks that would help with this?
I have stock ones currently, dropped to the lowest setting. Is there any progressive shocks that would smooth out the rough roads and keep me more comfortable?
Thanks guys!

I fitted a pair of 12 1/2" air shocks on my 750, great ride.

What brand did you use?
Progressive are STOOPID expensive.
I see Harley air shocks that are pulls, wonder if they could be adapted? :ahha: :Umm:

I got a set of cheapo's off Fleabay, I don't think they will handle the weight of a 1400 though. Rated at less than 300 Kg per pair. The Harley ones would only need bushing out for the mounts to fit.

Most of the sets I found are off the bigger bikes complete with the air lines and splitter. You're saying, just put the bushings from the OEM shocks into the Harely ones and the should fit?
So this set would work?

Should be fine, I know that the 750's - 800's have one lower 8 mm bush and 3 x 10 mm bushes (maybe the other way around, damn this old age), but I don't know about the 1400's. Measure the mounting bolts diameter and send a question to the vendor. It's not a big deal of a modification to make them fit.

I have back issues and have already had an L5-S1 fusion and will soon be having the sacroiliac joint fused. I have arthritis in my spine and other issues as well as non stop sciatica.

I installed progressive shocks and front springs for a better ride. While the bike is much more responsive and better handling, the ride itself is MUCH more firm, even on the lowest preload setting. Yes, the soft pogo stick motion is gone, but the firmness adds up on the back. The best money I've spent for my lower back pain has been the Protac backrest. I heard others mention it in a post and had to see if it would help. The difference was amazing!

Just my 2 cents.
Arthritis sucks!
