$20 per Tire/Tyre deal, Freaking Totally Cool

Post by Radmax »

I'm not selling these, don't ask me questions... But...

Just as a heads up to all you fellow awesome people... and Fred...

The Pep Boys Ebay (US) store is apparently dumping all their Kenda tires for $19.90 each, $5 Shipping or free shipping on orders over $35. I ordered a set for my intruder and another for my Savage, it seems fully legit. Got both sets for $86 USD and change. They even had a 21" for my 1993 800.

I don't know any more... how long it will last...? don't know, How this would pan out for UK people...? Don't know. etc.

Hope this isn't breaking any rules

Enjoy...

They have the same on Amazon with free shipping.
When you get them, check the manufacture date...inquiring minds want to know.

Edit to say that if you go to pep boys site they are $17.91, shipped to store or home.

Yes, Amazon's Prime "free shipping" is really just shipping added into the price... but I have to say they have pulled my buns out the fire a few times when I needed something really fast and they are a good source for used books and media so I try to look at all possible sources.

Ebay has more independent sellers and Chinese/Indian sellers with great deals if you are willing to wait a month. I just got a small fuel tank for when working on carbs.. it was $35 Domestically but only $9.99 from India... I hung it from an IV stand I had and it looks kinda cool having the bike on an IV... simple minds are easily amused.

Which ever route chosen though I'm real happy to get the tires for $40 a set and I'm looking forward to starting spring with all the new rubber on the ground. Now if I can just find a similarly good deal on high quality tubes...

Mine arrived today, Ordered Thursday and arrived Saturday.

One set was dated early 2016, The other set late 2013. Both sets feel really good and rubbery, must have been stored in climate controlled area. Being in Texas the tires wear fast due to year long riding so tempted to order more.

Indeed, if a bike is mostly garage kept and has a limited riding season it is likely to get hard before they can use up all the tread. In my case though 6 years is totally cool. With all year riding (winters often in the 60's and 70's) and 100+ summers I will go through a soft set of tires in a year and even a top set will only last 2. They also use better rubber than they did in the past and it stores better.

Some good reading on the subject

This is also a good reason for any rider to learn to mount their own. Not only do you save a bundle by not paying retail and for mounting, it also puts you more in touch with what is happening down below. Good rubber can get you out of a bad situation but hard rubber can put you in one.

Just a heads up this link doesn't work.

Don't know that I would want to ride on tires from 2013 either. If it's more than 5 years I would pass on them myself, but I'm more paranoid than most.

Hmmm, the link worked yesterday.
Basically the author also said about 5 years, but lots of variables like storage, heat, etc.

Well it's kind of like the article I cited points out...

I get dirt cheap quality brand tires because people believe they are too old when they are still perfectly fine, forcing retailers to clearance them.

$40 for 2 versus $140+ retail, I consider that a deal indeed. I mount and balance myself so my only other cost is tubes.

The more people that believe a 6 year old tire is end of life, the more cheap tires for me. So I am most definitely not arguing with you, keep spreading the word.

It depends what country you live in. Its hot where I live and I mistakenly bought a tyre 5 years old and now it is 13 years old. It still has use and yet it is so hard I run 5psi in the front tyre.

I can let all the air out and it still can be ridden, however I keep 5 psi in it just to hold the beads on.

Yes yes I need a new one yes its a bit dangerous but I know about it and I don't go fast. And yes I can afford a new one but I must have a bit of Jew in me from some where.

I would not ride in in the rain as it is so hard.

Teach me to read the manufacturer's date wont it. I'lle get a new one maybe next year.

There's nothing like a new tyre all black and soft with a lovely rubbery smell.

I also ordered a set, but I did it through Pepboys site and had them ship to store, local for me.
If they came in rock hard, I would simply cancel my order, rather than pay for return shipping.
The rear was rock hard with visible signs of oxidation, very stiff side wall, dated mid 2013, it would be six years old before it hit the ground this coming spring, I returned it.
The front was mid 2016, still soft and rubbery, that one is a keeper. [emoji106]

For that price one out of two isn't bad. Too bad the rear wasn't the good one since those tend to wear quicker. Hopefully most people ordering those did a decent once over like you before throwing them on their ride.

Hi,

Order a set yesterday and they arrived today. Total cost with shipping & tax - $43.

Front is from 2013 while the back is from 2016. Still better than what is on the bike today.

Enjoy

They could be 3 bucks a tire and free shipping and I'd still not put a 6 year old tire on my motorcycle.....it just ain't worth the risk..cold or hot weather.
