I had that same rattle on my 2002 1400..I devised a rubber gasket that fit over the tank opening that eventually solved the problem..

I just went to Ace Hardware and got an appropriate sized o-ring that fit over the gas cap lid and it stopped the buzz. Been working for a couple of years now. Think that was a recommendation from the purple board. ;IDunno:

for mine ill take one gasket of a cavalier filler neck cap, and it work very good, put more pressure on it to lock it but no more rattle for it
