New to Me ‘05 S83 (South Texas)

Post by BrandonCCTX »

Hi all,

Was very excited to find this forum recently. I’m completely new to riding and just bought an ‘05 S83 for my first bike. I fell in love with the simplistic styling and the decently high seat and flat style bars. I started out looking at S40’s since I’m new and a lighter, slower bike would be best - but after thinking about my daily commute with 20 miles of 75 mph highway I decided to go up to the larger engine and have not been disappointed.

I’ve already gotten a lot of use from this site and hopefully I can contribute some help to others in return. The bike ran great when I picked it up, but after being on the trailer for 8 hours it wouldn’t idle without choke. So I’ve gone through the carbs and put in K&N filters to replace the crumbling old foam ones. I’ve done my best to get the idle mixture screws and idle speed adjusted satisfactorily, but I still intend to get it to a professional at some point to dial it in. This being my first bike, I don’t really know what’s normal as far as response from the throttle and other things when riding.

The only photo I have that isn’t if it in pieces is one right after I picked it up. I promise it’s not sitting on a trailer anymore lol.

Thanks!

Thanks! And yes, MSF was the first thing I did after getting my gear. Hoping to try the advanced course next year.

Good looking ride.

Designer is correct, there are a lot of people here that can help you with any problems.

A lot of people have had problems with "professionals" trying to sort out the carbs and get a good balance done. Seems that not many have actually done this job and have problems with it.
I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.

Welcome aboard! I’m in San Antonio and used to have an ‘05 S83 in that same color. I loved and miss that bike. Mine also had carb issues that I finally got sorted and she ran great afterwards. Once sorted they are fantastic and fun rides. Enjoy her!
