Just joined from NY

Post by JB800 »

Hi,

New member here. I picked up a 97' VS800 on craigslist recrently for $700. Bike runs great, has newish tires and complete service history, 47k miles. Figured out yesterday the clutch slips a little in 4th/5th if I lay on the throttle, so Ill be replacing the clutch disks and springs this weekend. Otherwise she seems pretty good.

Looks like a good forum here, looking forward to reading through some threads.

Welcome, you likely need only the springs, the clutch discs usually last forever.
Barnett springs are about $10.

Thanks. I ordered a set of springs yesterday and will be installing them once they arrive.

I swapped the springs, now sometimes it slips but other times it doesnt. Job was easy except for one exhaust bolt that snapped and had to be drilled out. That caused me quite a bit of trouble but I got it.

Overall the slipping is very minimal and the clutch disks looked ok so I think I will leave it for now.
