Hey everyone I'm obviously new to the site I ride a 1994 vs800 I built into a cafe racer. I recently moved to Michigan and the roads are total crap to the point that one of my fork seals have blown from the absurd bumps. I have the manual and I know the procedure for changing my seals I'm gonna upgrade to stiffer Springs and possibly higher weight oil so this dosent happen again. The problem I'm having is there seems to be a cover over my dust seals on the forks which isn't mentioned anywhere I can find and I dunno how to get them off. Anyone with any insight please help.

Welcome aboard.
The tech section is a great place with plenty of useful info, post your future questions there.

Using a flat punch, start at the detent and carefully tap the cover off, work your way around.
Using brass or aluminum won't bugger it as much as steel. Reinstall with a brass hammer.

Progressive makes a set of fork springs for about $70, much improvement.
Then use medium or 15w fork oil.

Yea, the service manual is written for service techs, not the novice, so they emit stuff.
Now Chiltons on the other hand is full of bad info. :lmao:
When buying seals, buy OEM. My experience with aftermarket is they are cheaper but leak sooner than stock.
