Hello from Montgomery, AL

Hi Everyone.

I ran across a 99 VS1400 the last week of Feburary that was in storage for 2 years or so. I took the plunge and offered the Owner $500.00 and he loaded it for me. The tank was rusted, the gas smelled like 2 year old gas and brother, she was a orphan. Dirty, stale, and mad.

So two carb rebuilds, stage kit's, tank liner, KN filters, flush the final drive, flush the oil, flush the clutch, flush the brakes, new fuel lines, added fuel filter's, chrome polish, elbow grease, beer---a lot of beer, cussing, stalking this site looking for tips, she is alive! Just over 13k miles and she is loved.

Side note: I'm a plumber and took small engine repair during high school. All it took was love, beer and taking advice. I have the video when she first started up, but I can't upload it. It took a few months of weekend / a few hours a week at night work.

How I re-packed everything under the tank, well, I didn't use a hammer, but I had one on stand-by.

Thanks,
Charlie
p.s. anyone know a good aftermarket site? Forward controls or floor boards?

Edit... the video

Thanks Yo,

Glad to be a bonafied member. I hated that bike the first 3 weeks. She wouldn't tell me what to fix.

Welcome aboard.

sounds like there wasn't anything that didn't need fixing.

I have been riding 1400's since 89 when I bought an 87 that was a left over. Put 154,000 on it.

I am now running a 99 that I bought with 8700 on it, still had the original tires when I bought it in 2003. I put over 180,000 on the original engine, installed a used engine from a 96 and now have over 220,000 on the bike itself.

I love the 1400's. I think you are going to enjoy the ride.
