Thanks SR2 [emoji106] In my small town a new 70 SS but dark blue with white stripes ran a lot.A motorcycle friend had a rare 375 hp option 1966 396 he had got new.67 to me is best looking Chevelle but like them all.1970 is the bad ass lookin one with the chrome gone around the head lites gave them a evil look . I had a new 1969 RoadRunner I street or back road 1/4 ran a lot. In 1971 when the big HP cut came GM seemed to have cut deeper than the rest but all were pale stock next to the 70 back muscle cars. Then in 1977 when I started running bikes street cars seemed a joke.At first some wanted to street run you but by 1980 they wanted no part of a race with a motorcycle. [emoji2] glory days.

I agree with the '67 being the best looking one. I turned 15 in 1967. That was my dream car that I never got. My first car was a '56 Chevy Bel Air. A few years later, after marrying, I came close to pulling the trigger on a '68 year model, 396 ci Chevelle that I test drove, but with one kid already and mama thinking there were better family car choices, I didn't. My older brother, when I was a teenager, had a '62 Impala convertible with a 409 ci that was built by Perk Brown, a local Winston Cup driver around these parts. My brother bought it from him. It was set up for top end running, I guess, with 2 Carter AFB 4 barrels feeding a cam, 4-speed in-the-floor and a high ratio rear. It was a 411, I believe. I have no idea about the HP number, but I remember it would show you about 90 on the speedo in second gear and peg the speedo in third. That was one beautiful car. Red with white top and sounded even better than it looked. It had a pair of those huge dual exhaust tubes sticking out the back that builders used to to fabricate from drive shafts. I bet you know about those. Most people today have never heard of such. When I was a younger kid my oldest brother had a pretty hot looking '60 Impala that came from the factory with 348 ci and 3 2-barrel carbs.

The '62 and '60 looked about identical to these (minus the skirts on the '60). The cars they made back in the day were a lot more fun. [space] [emoji106]

Nice pics [emoji106] .1958 first Impala that replaced Bel Air as top of line.Had a 59 chevy.I like 59 Chevys and Buicks with the rear fin that is a little more than 60...348 came out in 1958 and was replaced in real late 1961 with the 409 that looks the same. All so first SS in late 61. 411 is a real low gear rear end. 348/409 was used in bigger trucks after they were no longer in cars. The big valve covers make them as easy to spot as the old big Mopar Hemi if laying out.

That might explain the acceleration. [space] [emoji106]
