I'm what you might call a WW II buff......I've read just about every historical book on WW II and some books on it's aftermath...
The most interesting was " The Two Ocean War" by Samuel Eliot Morrison...
It's a chronology of the Naval War and covers the Atlantic and Pacific campaigns..

Another was written by Herbert A. Werner , a former U Boat Commander, the name of the book is "Iron Coffins".

A pictorial history is offered by Lothar-Gunther Buchheim , author of the boat in U-Boat War.

All three are very interesting reads even if you are not into war history..

I recall seeing this one years ago. It's a good one, and I'm going to make time to see it again. I like Robert Mitchum in just about anything he does.

I like history and war history.Civil war and WWII the most.My Dad saw so much combat in WWII.He was in the Texas 36 T-Patchers.They started in N.A. then first alies into southern Italy. They lost so many and Dad made it all the way to German border when a shell hit the 105 H he was on on and his friend next to him died and dad had a real bad leg wound.Allso have a uncle buried in France. He made it in during D-day but killed inland days later. He was barley 19 and moms baby brother.
One of my riding friends was born and raised in Tenn..He in big in S.O.C. and loaned me a book about the best synper of the CSA..Good read.

My poor ole Dad served in the US Navy from 1943 till 1946, he volunteered like the rest of 'em. He served aboard the USS Guam (CB-2)... one of the newer battleships being built at the end of the war..it was referred to as a "pocket battleship" , the ship served as an escort for aircraft carriers, her and her sister ship the USS Alaska (CB-2) accompanied the USS Franklin (CV-13). During land bombardment he was a loader on one of the 12" guns and other times he manned one of the many 20 MM guns , his 20 mm gun placement was mid ship.
He often told me that during the encounters with kamikazi aircraft , he was most fearful of losing his life....He was discharged in 1946 in Bayonne, New Jersey as a 2nd class Seaman.

I suppose I better do my duty for the community and move this thread where it belongs. Oh and Lechy! Thanks for that [emoji106] I haven't seen that one since I was a kid!
