Had a problem with carbs, the emulsion tubes were worn and oval. Managed to get a second hand set that had never been touched with good tubes, rebuilt them and the difference is massive better tick over more power and more to the gallon.

Carbs on the 1500 are prone to wearing out the needle jets due to the carbs laying down. Same thing happens on mid / late 90's sports bikes where they tilt the carbs forward to match the intake tracts. Gary Ford at GMan Industries still does replacements in house I believe. I sent my carbs to him and the difference (as you have discovered) is phenomenonal.
