I have lost my only key for my 2004 Intruder. I found the selling dealership, and they do not have the key code on record. Any chance that code would be on any of the key cylinders for the ignition, gas door, or helmet lock? If not, which would be the least painful to pull, and bring to a locksmith to have a new key made?

Key code is inside the ignition cylinder.

I didn't find any codes inside the cylinder. I did find "3925" on the back of the assembly. Is that a key code, or a part #?

You didn't state what bike you had. Is it a VL1500?

*Stamped on the back side of the Helmet lock-- Hint: Removal is generally very easy
*Seat lock
Note: My book says that there were no codes on Suzuki. I still find codes on over half the bikes. No codes? I can still make your keys. Call 816-918-4734
*Vintage bikes (60's 70's 80's); look on Bezel ring where key goes in.

I think I'll try the dealer, and see if that is a valid key code. If not, off to a locksmith. I am not able to pull the helmet lock. One tamper proof torx screw, which I have torx drivers for. The helmet lock needs to be in the open position to get the driver on the screw. The owner's manual is in the storage compartment. Need the key to open the darn thing. Any bets the key code is in that packet?

$30 isn't bad. I doubt it's in the packet. The guy that cuts them has a number listed. Doesn't cost anything to give him a call. May know exactly where it's located.

Cut a couple and put one with a zip tie inside the neck cover. You only need an allen key to access it, but most thieves will not look in there for a key. I dropped one in the sand at a beach 300km from home in the 80's and have always hidden a spare on the bike after that.

Spare in the neck cover. I may do that.

Any competent locksmith can determine the code by taking the lock cylinder apart and fiddling with the tumblers, and it doesn't cost much.

Key code? You don't need no stinkin' key code! All you need to do is twist two wires together and away you go! (I've seen that in the movies!)

Jonnycando, the ignition cylinder is now at a locksmith, doing just that. Since I now have down time, new brakes and tires are going on.

Follow up. My key turned up before the locksmith started work. It fell out of my pocket at my dad's place 73 miles away. Not sure why I had the key. Delivery driver found the key in his driveway.

I had two good spares made. I did pull the helmet lock, found "3917" stamped on it. I'll have to assume that's a part number.

According to the dealership that sold the bike back in 2004, no codes are listed for that vin #, and nothing was annotated in their paperwork. Suzuki codes start in the 5000 range, so the numbers I found aren't key codes for that bike. No code on the original key either. My son's key for his 96 VS800 does have one stamped on it.

So, I lucked out. My key turning up saved me a $95 locksmith bill. Lesson learned? As several have mentioned, get spares made as soon as you buy your motorcycle. It'll save you a lot of hassle and expense.

On the plus side. I used the down time to put new sneakers on my bike, and a fresh safety inspection. Plenty of riding time left in the season.
