21 to 19 rim on same hub

Post by Ksmit144 »

Hello everyone,
I'm looking to drop from the 21" rim on my vs800 to a 19x2.5 in order to move from the 80/90-21 to a 110/90-19. Has anyone done this before? I've checked all the fit clearances with the fender and everything should be fine (tire will only be .1" taller and 1" wider).

I found abundant 19x2.5 Harley rims for dirt cheap online but the spoke length may be custom between the rim and hub which cost $$. Anyone know how difficult the lacing process is and what I should avoid when doing it myself? Any recommendations for custom spoke companies?

You can easily and cheaply swap the OEM wheel between the 21" and the 19". They bolt right up.
Relacing to a harley hub will cost you, wheel bearing changes, speedo drive setup, custom spokes, etc.
Harley hubs are laced in the center of the rim from side to side, the intruder hub is offset.

But if you must....

Thanks for the info! I'm not terribly familiar with how lacing a wheel works so this may be a dumb question, but if I kept the OEM hub and simply laced a Harley rim to it, would the offset hole pattern vs inline pattern change the wheel stability if both are 40 spoke configurations?

Well the VS800 has 60 spokes of 3 different lengths to accommodate the offset.
If you use a 40 spoke Harley rim you can throw stability out the window.

Cheap and easy, pick up a Suzuki OEM 19" front wheel, they are all over ebay.
Bronx Intruder, a member here, may even have one for sale.

Ah the 60 spokes... I'm just on fire today with my missed observations. :bang:

But I hear what you are saying with the 19" OEM wheel being best. However, most I've seen available online seem pretty beat up and I have no knowledge on how to refinish the rims so if someone on here has one available I'd jump all over that!

21" wheels are quite rare for the Intruder and there is a market for them. Put an add on Ebay for a straight swap and you should have loads of interest.
