1400 in 800 frame : Possible or Impossible

Post by BRONX INTRUDER »

Been thinking; as title suggests.. Can a vs1400 mototr get stuffed into a vs800 frame.
Now i know it's been said it wont fit because the 14 is bigger..
What if we left the head covers off and trimmed some where possible?
Or if we could chop and enlarge the frame a tidbit?
Another thing to ponder; the trans secondary drive on the 800 and 1400 may not be at the same level which means it may not line up with the swingarm for u-joint and final drive. So in this case.. We might need to make a halfbreed frame or just forget about it. Lol.

Anything is possible if you have the equipment. I feel it would be way too much hassle for a worthwhile end product.
But, that's just me.

Indeed. Probably be easiest to chop the neck off 800 and weld to 1400 body. Lol.

Way back on the old board RTU2 or something like that.Too old to be star wars fan :bonk: Tall lanky ,good guy, good wrench, and like BRONX T. was all ways building. He had a 1400 chopper I saw at the NC rally. He had it painted to look like a lot of rust on it and called it Frankenstein I think.I sold him a 1400 seat pan once.He may have been a big part of the board function in the early years? Met Night Wolf all so. He has a good site with a wealth of old pics and tips.

I'm curious what the advantage would be to put the 1400 in an 800 frame. Would it be any different than the vs1400? I know the fork angle may be slightly different because of the tube length but beyond that the bikes are pretty much the same(within reason)
Another part of that argument is-the 800 frame has a narrower rear tire so I don't see an advantage there either.
Just can't see an advantage that make the work worth while.
Insight?

:lmao: I sure do. Lol.
Well the swingarm would be replaced with 1400 to accomodate 1400 wider rim and disk brake.
Only reason really thought about it is a have spare 1400 engine and parts.. And 800 engines appear to be more expensive on ebay for some reason. Lol.
You can have a registered vs800 with vs1400 power and i'd probably use the 800 final drive to dig into that low end torque more. If the 14 kills it.. No biggie.. Swap in a 14 final as i have a few. Lol. I'd probably chop and or leave a lot of metal off too.. And just mount an aux tank leaving the stock one off for exposed carb and cables on top. Do a zombie apocalypse/ mad max sorta frankenbike. Lol. But this is all just thinking. Doubt i'll put myself thru it right now. Lol.
