The '98 is a bar hopper chopper
Her '05 is a replacement for the '06 and will gain mileage rapidly. :putput: (She doesn't trust the '06 for cross country trips any more) :donno:

Most of Navigators mileage is pushing them to the workshop.

99 VS1400, not sure what the total mileage is. Original odometer quit working at about 175 K. It would run up to 176 and then kick back to 175. Rode it that way a few months, conservative estimate is about up to 185 K. Then the speedo started reading 90 when leaving the driveway. Swapped the speedo out for another one, with 10,264 it now reads 44,258.

Conservative estimate is 218 K total.

Herb,

I think your blowing smoke. Was there ever an engine replacement or rebuild? I always assumed motorcycles were expected to maybe last 100k

I can't say anything about anyone else's bikes but I can tell you I know of a '99 intruder LC 1500 that has 278,+++ miles on it without a single internal repair(the cases have never been opened) and it still runs today. It belongs to a good friend and he rides many miles a year. He bought it brand new and other than the electrical issues that the 1500's are known for he's not had a single major issue with it. Last year when he was in Florida he was still riding it and I took a picture of the odometer and it read 278,+++ then and he was still riding it regularly. Since then he has purchased another C90 and spends most of his time on that but still takes the 99 around the block and into town occasionally so it doesn't sit. Even Harley Evo's and twin cams will pull 100,000 if maintained properly. There are very few modern motorcycles I'm aware of that have internal issues because of poor design or weak parts. One example of that is the 2005 and newer C50. Internal issues are well known(timing chain adjusters are notorious for failure)and most fail before 50,000 miles. The earlier version(Volusia's) didn't seem to have as many failures for some reason and are capable of 100,000 miles without catastrophic failure.
Jump over on the Delphi 1500 LC/C90 site and you'll find many many many bikes over 100,000 a bunch over 150,000 and some over 200,000. The later is not often only because a good number of those guys ride long distance and replace their bikes before the 200,000 mile marker but the bikes still get riden way beyond that by guys who stay local.

I still abuse my motorcycles more than most of even the young guys I ride with.Have torn up/blown up more than most allso :bonk: . Blew a hunk of blown clutch basket out the back of a less than a year old GS1000 motor. Went through lots of clutch baskets and clutch plates but a drag strip does away with the too often term bullet proof :lmao: .Go down a drag strip ten to twenty times a week end and you will tear something up before the season is over.
Over all Suzuki has taken drag strip abuse better than any brand owned by me.At meets the last few years have seen lots of the V-stroms with over 100,000 and never apart. One I see every year at the Burksville meet has over 250,000 now. Like mine some of these have had the sater replaced.Agree with Brettmm 92 that in that is most common let down in the Suzuki line. Other brands like the other wise great Vuclan 800 are even worse. Mine bought new in 012 has 55,000 now and never a spark plug out yet.If they start, run, and sound the same I don't bother them any more but to change oil, lube cables, chains, etc. Most all motorcycles are so much better than back when a few of us were young in the 60s. I don't buy real green bananas now at 71 in a few days.

I've got over 133,000 miles on my 1999 vs800 with no major engine problems. I change the oil and filter every 3,000 mile, change the other fluid when I think about it and new tires when needed,. :bonk: Motorcycle tire on front and darkside (car tire) on rear. [space] :HatTip:

If you had been keeping up with other posts you would know that I did have some issues. However, with decent care the 1400 will run well over 150K with few problems.

My first 1400 was an 87, that I put 154K on. It was just starting to use about a Qt of oil every 1500-2000 miles when I sold it.

The 99 that I have now I bought used in 2004, with 8600 on it. At 135K a piece of the shifter assembly broke inside the trany, allowing it to go into 2 gears at once, broke a bunch of shit, the part that broke is part of the 5th gear installation. I had to tear it down and replace some bearings, a shaft and a gear. While I was at it I honed the cylinders and put new rings in. After I got it together I had another bearing go bad, at about 5000 miles, that I thought was good, had to take it back apart and fix that, only replace the head and base gaskets that time. I still had an odd rum-rum noise in the tranny, most noticeable in 3rd, I think I missed another bad gear. Rode it to about 182K and found a used engine that I swapped in. The used engine was supposed to have about 25K on it and was supposed to be a 95 but it is a 6 speed, so not sure of anything except it runs good.

So, yeah I have had some issues. Both bikes went through a stator at about 120K. The 99 ate the drive shaft spline, where it goes into the final drive, year before last, don't remember the mileage, somewhere around 200K. Bought a used final drive, with the drive shaft for less than the shaft alone.

The 87 was the most trouble free bike I have ever owned, only the common clutch problems, replaced one slide because of a tear in the diaphragm, and the one stator, other than brakes, tires and lights and a few other minor problems.

The 99 was totaled by a van driver who sideswiped me at a left turn light, I bought it back from the insurance company and fixed it. Then 3 years ago my wife ran over it with our utility trailer, screwed it up pretty good, took me over 2 days and $120 to get it back on the road.

One last thing, I have been running 10w40 car oil and mostly fram filters on my bikes, with oil changes somewhere around 4500-5000 miles.

During the last year I only put about 5K on the 1400 as I had a honda ST1100 that I bought and put most of my miles on it. Finally gave up and sold the damn thing, never could get it to stop overheating in traffic. AND I bought a house and moved last summer, Haven't put over about 2000 miles on the 1400 and the GS1100GK since last August, to busy getting the renovations/upgrades my wife wants done to the house and yard to get any riding time in.

Since 1989, I have put over 370K on 2 intruders, with what is actually minimal troubles, many of which were my own fault for making mods that didn't' work worth shit.
I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.
