Wheel interchangability

Post by Trider00 »

Hey guys I’m new to the intruder world. I got a 2001 vs800gl given to me as a project bike and I was wondering what wheels were interchangeable with it as it has a 21” on the front and the one I have is broke and aftermarket wheels are non existent for them. Any information is appreciated

If you have any type of electrical issue, have your battery load tested before you do anything else. Any auto parts store will test it for free.

Either the 19 or 21 will bolt into place, same caliper and spacer, no issues.
The 100/90-19 and the 80/90-21 have nearly the same rolling radius, so the speedometer won't be an issue.
The 19" is obviously a fatter tire.

Yea, any year VS800 intruder front wheel will work, the 21" or 19".
If you are lucky enough to find a set of snowflake mags from an early VS700, they work as well, but you need to turn the wheel around so that the rotor is on the right...also have to find a 5 bolt rotor ...and mount the tire in the proper direction.

What about wheels from other bikes? Are there any that are interchangable from others? But the mag wheels I will definitely have to look into

No that I know of, the VS1400 and VS800 front wheels are interchangable, but I don't think other models fit on there. You can mod some old Jardine wheels or call the custom wheels shops and ask if they want to make you a set.

I know that the GS1100 is the same size axle diameter as the 1400. Not sure of the spacing or the brake situation.
I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.

Night Wolf had really nice wheels on his 1400. He also does a good job of listing specs for the VS800 and 1400.

Axle diameter is only part of the equation - there's also disc size, offset, hub width, etc.

Here's a list of bikes by axle diameter which might be helpful....
