Carb switch possible issue

I’ve been working on this bike for a minute and I rebuilt the carbs etc but then came across a parts bike which I bought, my bike is a 94 the parts bike was a 05, the parts from the 05 were much cleaner and seemingly better so I used the rear carb from the 05 and kept my 94 up front, could this be the reason I can’t get even 1%throttle? I still have the original jets from the old rear carb can I just swap them out ?

OK - what level of clean are we talking? Pulled the float bowl and rinsed out the sediment....or pulled all the jets and blew out all the passages with compressed and carb cleaner? Carbs that have been sitting with old fuel can get clogged up pilot circuits in very short order.

Yea I completely cleaned it but it was sitting for about a month maybe I’ll clean it again I just figured it hadn’t been that long

The unknown is how long those carbs might have been sitting before you got them. They might have looked good and you might have cleaned them...but not got all the crap out.

A lot of people have good results with ultrasonic cleaners which are pretty cheap nowadays- might be something to try.

Well would ya look at that, I looked at the carb and there was no pilot jet period lol I’m gonna put the one from mine in and see what happens

Hey man so I took my front carb off again and in the book there’s a pilot jet and that was clogged but it’s not the one your picture shows? Is there two pilot jets, the one that I unclogged was the one with a tube on the end with 4 holes in it

The one I indicated is the air jet, the one you cleaned is the fuel jet.

The fuel and lubrication section of the manual has a diagram of the fuel and air flows inside the carb. It is really helpful infigureing out where everything is.

Right okay that makes sense, so good news I cleaned all of them. The bike does run now and idle, and rev however it’s been very difficult to start after sitting overnight, I wouldn’t say it’s cold it’s still about 80 in the morning here in Phoenix and I have to crank for a while, is it possible the carbs being out of sync would cause that? Once it’s warm they are very responsive and seem fine. A lot of people point to the choke but mine seems to work fine as it raises the rpms when I pull it all the way out. I also noticed if I open the throttle maybe 5% and hold it there it starts to break up all I can think of is it being out of sync

Do you turn the petcock off when you have finished riding? Have you fitted the overflow hoses? the reason I ask is that the fuel can evaporate out of the carbs and the fuel pump only works when the engine is cranking or running. I overcame this problem by taking a feed wire from the orange/(white) wire going to the CDI box. This allows the pump to work with the key, in an emergency the pump can be shut down with the kill switch.
A synch and AF adjustment never goes amiss.

You make a super solid point, yea I don’t have anything connected to the vent hoses, or overflow nipples I should probably figure those out, I got my vacuum port adapters and am gonna build a manometer tomorrow to sync the carbs I’ll let you know what I find
