Buzzing when trying to start

Post by panamaniac »

Left the bike sitting for too long. Battery was super low, but not totally dead (could still get a little light out of the headlights). Pulled battery, charged, and now I get buzzing sound. I think it's pretty likely that the battery is dead but it's only been 2 seasons so that would make me sad. Any chance it's NOT the battery? And yeah, the headlights do dim a bit when I'm trying start it :/

Sound like a stuck starter relay or starter drive gear
Check for power at the starter when you engage the starter button

Try putting the bike in gear and rocking back and forth

If that dosnt work try jumping the 2 large battery cables at the started relay

Try jumpering from your car battery. If that works then your bike battery is toast.

A little more information would be of help in getting your problem solved.

When you re-charged the battery, what was the voltage when done?

I see you mentioned the lights dimmed when trying to start it, are you saying they appeared to be totally bright in the first place? ( as they normally would).

When a battery gets too low, it doesn't "come back" fully ever again, even when you re-charge it "fully" again.

And it does sound like the buzzing noise comes from right there, near the starter relay. But may I ask, can you tell if the Fuel Pump sounds normal, or weak?
