Got a front fork question
I have a 1996 Suzuki intruder vs800 and I'd like to know if the triple tree mount is the same as a vz800 maurader so I switch out the forks and triple tree. If no one knows can anyone tell me exactly what I need to measure. Also I have a custom rear rim for the maurader which is chain driven. Would like to know if I can use that rim on my vs800 intruder by just swapping the rim and leaving the left side guts on their perspective bikes.?
I ain't done parking yet.

Re: Got a front fork question
For the trees, measure the diameter and the spacing of the upper and lower neck bearings.
Also fork length, caliper location, brake line.
For the rim, lots of variables...spoke length, spoke count, offset?
Lots of thought goes into modding.

RE: the front ends - from what I've found they run the same size bearings:
Upper: 25 x 47 x 15mm
Lower: 30 x 55 x 17mm
Suzuki ran those size bearings in heaps of their bikes which is pretty cool.
So the only other factor would be the neck / stem length between the two. More than likely the VZ will have a longer stem than the VS so it would just be a matter of a spacer / shimming and working out the steering stops.

You have to swap the steering stems. In case you don't know, you'll need to press the steering stemout with a 20 ton press- go to an auto body shop, they may do it for cheap. Make sure when it's pressed out to press out the bearing as well. And of course press a new bearing into the bottom of the steering stem) then have it pressed into the lower tree of the marauder. The steering stops different keep in mind. They're useless so don't lean the front end all the way in one way or the other when you're parked.
You'll get four more inches longer in the front end, but I don't know if you can get around not using the marauder front wheel (since you'll be using their forks, axle, speedo, spacer). I think it looks pretty cool, and it's definitely rides different.

The intruder stem is shorter but I didn't use a spacer.hillsy wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 7:05 pmRE: the front ends - from what I've found they run the same size bearings:

It can't be more than 2 inches - definitely less than 2 inches.

Re: Got a front fork question
Did the swap and had to cut the tube that goes through the yoke and shorten it. Had to lengthen the brake hose. The rest was bolt n play.

If you have any type of electrical issue, have your battery load tested before you do anything else. Any auto parts store will test it for free.
