Carburetor rebuild and Jets.
The float is sticking open on my wifes 1996 vs 800. I am going to have the carbs rebuilt. The baffles have been removed from the exhaust so I was thinking they could use new jets too. Does anyone have recommendations for carb rebuild kits and jet sizes?

Re: Carburetor rebuild and Jets.
Unless/until you reduce the intake restriction of the filters, re-jetting is not required. When I put lower-restriction mufflers on mine, it actually got a bit more rich, because of the relatively large intake-exhaust valve crossover. BTW, I don't recommend changing the filters, as it makes tuning a nightmare, and these engines are already at about peak performance. The only hard parts that need replacing in the carbs would be the fuel valves.

Win tr Sol I appreciate the info. As far as carb rebuild kits go I have no clue what I need. One is a BS36SS and the other is a BDS36SS. Does that mean I need 2 different kits or is it still the same kit for both carbs?

I agree with WintrSol, you can reuse all the o-rings, Just get 2 new needle valve assemblies.
13370-39A00 for both the front and the rear.
And you may not even need them after examining every thing. You may just have a chunk of debris stuck in the seat.

Be careful not to bugger the small screws that hold the float bowl on.

IOW, do NOT use a Phillip's screwdriver. Get a set of JIS type (word is Vessel is the best), and you shouldn't bugger another screw. They also work pretty well in Phillip's head screws, so you don't really need to carry two sets. If you still have your bike's tool kit, the screwdriver in there fits just fine.

So how do I lean it out a bit so that it ia not running so rich?

Re: Carburetor rebuild and Jets.
First, verify the float levels are properly set. There is a page in the service manual that shows how. It is a little confusing on the front (No. 2) carb though. Mine had a fine line cast into the bowl, RH side, which is where the level should be.
Second, how rich is it? Taking out the baffles will make this engine run a bit richer, overall. It comes down to, what to the plugs look like?

I know this is very old post but how is this possible? Wouldn't it become lean? Please explain.
