Loss of power with acceleration

Post by The1Chef »

There are a few guys on another site with 800s all having the same issue. The are losing power under hard acceleration. Bikes run perfect otherwise.

You guys have any idea what they might be suffering from? It seems that its an unsolved symptom over there and frustration has hit the masses

Probably jetted lean from the factory to meet emissions standards. Running ethanol fuel now?

Lot's of variables but really need more detailed info.

First thing that came to my mind was air filters. But that is only one of many possible causes,

Very broad symptoms but the first thing I'd try on a carby bike is to raise the needles.

A better observation. The problem quite possibly could be they are dirty and slowing airflow when it is most highly needed. Especially since this seems to be problem that has only recently appeared, it's not likely to be a factory setting.

Could we get some more specific information regarding the reported symptom of ,..."losing power under hard acceleration" ?

Is this a feeling of power loss in the midrange?...or more at the top end of the RPM spectrum? Does this result in a loss of Top Speed?
Are there any other noises/sensations related to when this Power Loss occurs?

lol

I know one of them has checked or replaced carb diaphrams to ensure no holes. Apparently that yields the same symptoms

I will check into it more

It's the easiest thing to try and it doesn't involve buying anything (OK - maybe some small washers to shim the needle up if it doesn't have a circlip).

Any word on what was found as to the cause?

Also check for cracks in the hard rubber intake manifolds between the carbs and jugs.
Fill cracks with RTV.

Could possibly be that the carb sync cable is not in sync and is causing one carb to take in more air/fuel than the other.
