GS Shafty rear on VS700/800

Post by theonedad »

Hi yall. I have searched and searched and found nothing on this subject but has any one run a GS850-1100 rear wheel on a VS?
There is a fella on FB marketplace that has a VS800 for sale whith a rear mag I assume off a GS (based on the design) and he has not returned my email.
Image I personally like a 16 instead of the purely Japanese 15 rear on any "chopper"

Thanks for any help or info everyone.

The snowflake mag was introduced on the 700/750 in the '80's.
Perhaps it is one of them.
The GS series has rear disc, not drum.

Good point. I have a gs1100gk so I shod have known better. Still very curious on how he got it mounted.

While I had the gs1100gk I thought about putting the wheels off of the gs on my 1400. Measuring it out there was no way the rear wheel would have worked. The distance between the axle and the center of the swingarm was almost 2 inches too short. The front-wheel would have fit but I would have had to make special spacers to align the brake disk with the center of the caliper and to keep from bending the fork tubes when tightening the axle.
I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.

Well I figured it out...he has no rear brakes. (so wicked safe) he used a disc rear wheel because doesn't look like there was ever a drum rear shaft drive suzuki that I can see that was ever made. Image

I don't understand this statement.
The VS700, VS750, and VS800 are all drum rear shaft drive Suzuki's,

I think he means mag wheel, not spoked.

Yes I mean mag wheels. Other than the mags on the VS700 which is a 15 inch rear. I think I will send it to buchmans spokes as its only $350 to have them lace up a 16in rim to the stock 800 hub. I just thought the 16 inch mag looked cool. (not how this one is but in general)

Before you spend the money on relacing, do some measuring. Specifically the OD of the mounted 16" tire versus the axle to swing arm radius, the 15" is really close.

oh yeah the there both within a hair of each other. I would be doing this for purely aesthetic reasons. I was never a fan of the 15 inch rear that became the norm for metric cruisers.

Don't know what there isn't to understand. I like the look of a 16inch rear wheel more than a fat 15inch rear wheel.

Like I said, I don't understand that.

To me, skinny tires and single side exhaust don't look good, especially on cruisers. The cost of lacing up a skinny rim and buying a skinny tire doesn't make sense.

But then, to each his own.

I agree on the single sided exhaust on the intruders due to the battery location. How every the intruder lens itself real nice to a narrow chopper style build. This is what I am going after with shocks though. Hardtails and New England do not do well together. Image

Cool old school chopper look.

I agree with your hardtail assessment. I have ridden hardtails and without the spring seat, they SUCK.
