Probably best to steer clear of the Chinese made equipment. Japanese or Taiwanese I have had good luck with.
I recently fitted a Taiwan rectifier to mine made for a Honda African Twin, works great.

IMO if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I agree about staying away from the Chinese knockoffs.

Checking the contacts in the connector between the stator and R/R is not a bad idea, though. It is a weak spot, as the contacts get grimy and start to heat up.

Get a decent quality stator (Ricks), a series RR (SH775 or Polaris), solder up all the wires, get a good battery and use star washers on the terminals. That's about the best you can do.

Cheers hillsy ,that the reply I was looking for, at my age 54 ,I cant waste time or money on the side of the road ,waiting for someone to give me a hand. ''preventative maintenance '' is what I need. my bikes 31 years old and parts don't last forever ,the sand runs faster through the hour glass the older you get .....................

Hope it all turns out good. Try to do all I can and do on most all my bikes. Elc. is my weak spot. A good tip is all ways nice.54 is young! Did my only over 1,000 mile day at 55 and did a 900+ on way back from Colorado at 69 in 015. Put 45,000 on my 96 1400 with no troubles other than the poor cold weather starting most all have. :putput:

Where on the bike is this connection point usually found? I see the wire bundle coming from the R/R, but it sweeps upward and I don't see the connection. Does the left side cover need to be removed to find it?

Not sure on the S83, but the 800 has it under the seat....3 yellow wires.

Just follow the cable from the R/R; it should have two connectors, one with the three yellow wires.

should be under the rider's seat on the left side of the bike.
I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.
