bike runs like crap

so im not sure if its because its getting colder out or when i only knocked the crap out of the rear air filter. but the bike runs like crap. do you think its a sync issue or maybe the air-fuel screw needs some attention

What do you mean by "when i only knocked the crap out of the rear air filter"?
The filters are foam, and when they decompose, it is possible to have the foam sucked into the carb....plugging orifices.
I would start there before messing with any adjustments.

sorry, I should have stated it was a k&n filter and I just knocked out some of the stuff trapped in it. I didn't have what I needed to recharge the filter at the time so I figured every little bit helps

so i tore the bike apart. cleaned and lube the k&n filters but the bike still runs like crap. next week i am going to try and build a carb sync tool

If the filters were that dirty than most likely carbs need a cleaning/rebuild.

i came home to a puddle of gas under the bike today. seems like i am going to have to clean/rebuild the carbs

I have bought intruders that had disgusting carbs and still ran fine. It never hurts to give them a good cleaning but, replace the o ring around the float seat/screen. If that is compromised, it will let fuel by even though the float is seated. Again, I experienced this and took me nine months to find it. Check it out......
