LED headlight

Post by Mindslyder »

Head light blew out at 4 am on a back twisting roads. Looked at a few options including the Cyclops light, but looking for a direct replacement. Anyone with a good part number or brand?

YEah, 320w sounds too good to be true. Anyway, this bike can't run that much of a load for long.

So, pulled the bike apart today. The halogen bulb looks intact and not blackened. Pulled all the covers off, tank, seat, completely stripped. Found a few chaffed areas but nothing through the outer wire covers. Fixed all that, but now looking at the fuse box, headlight calls for 10amp fuse, there was a 15amp blown fuse. Checked the bulb, it is a 60/55w which is 5 amp max. That being said, when the bulb went out, I was running high beams, which I never use, just happened to pass a deer up the road and decided to run highs just in case. I also found a couple of wire taps in the wire, definitely not stock.

Time to break out the meter and track down a possible short or high resistance in the wiring.

Is this bulb plug and play or are there any mods required?

If you have any type of electrical issue, have your battery load tested before you do anything else. Any auto parts store will test it for free.

The bulb is plug and play, just sometimes tough to fit it all in there.
