knocking when cold

Post by Luis_o_98 »

hey all new s83 owner but i had a vs800 for a while and knew that bike inside and out lol. anyways my s83 has a knock in the front cylinder when i first start the bike up. it goes away after a minute or two though. is this a problem or common to the bike. the bike also has a lot of vibration at higher rpms( a lot more than the 4 other bikes i have owned)

thanks for any help in advance

Not normal. What kind of oil are you running?

Not sure what oil is in there right now. All I know is the oil is about a yr old. Just waiting on designer's springs [emoji14] before I change the oil out. Prob going to put some seafoam in the oil Before I change it too

The 1400's have hydraulic lifters and adjusters so if your oil is old and manky you will get this problem.

And, if the bike has been parked for over a month or longer without starting up the motor, you would hear the noticeable tad, tad, tad noise when the motor is cold. The noise would go away after 5 minutes or so with the motor running.

Yes if you pay for really really expensive oil like 0-5 viscosity costing $XXXXXXXXX from a formula 1 racing car and take a mortgage it will shock your brain into thinking that it must help your engine. This re programmers your brain into just not hearing any noise or noises at all.

You may even experience better economy , braking and brighter lights, just about every thing will be better as your brain still smarting from the expense recovers and tries to justify its reckless decisions of mechanical incompetence.

Sounds like your oil is low.
Check your book to see what wt oil it wants.

I can vouch for shell rotella 15w40. No it's completely relevant but, I've got 300000 miles on an 03 Cummins and never ran any other oil in it and changed every 6000 miles. Replaced the valve gasket last year and the orange assembly tape is still on the push rods. It still looks brand new.
