A few things I seriously need help with!

Post by West11jon »

I've searched but wouldn't be asking if I'd found what I need.

Are there any instructions on how to disable the clutch safety switch?

Also does anyone know the factory bulbs for the speedometer?

And lastly and most importantly, I'm in the middle of a handlebar swap and the wiring diagram I found on this site via the downloadable service manual is BARELY readable. A's look like W's and so on. It's an old document so the text is from probably early 90's.

Does anyone have a clearer diagram?

Thanks in advance. On to the how to post pics thread I saw.

Ayuh!!

You can just unplug the the wires & connect with a jumper so it can be reversed in the future.....But I recommend keeping the kickstand switch....This is how I have mine set up.
If at first you succeed, don't be surprised.

So I'm not sure how to do that... on my bike there's no disconnect on it... it just looks hard wired.

The small wire harness going under the clutch lever will pull off. Grab the hard plastic clip just under the lever and pull straight down. Then take a small bear wire and push both ends into the clip (that jumps it) and push the clip back on. Switch is now jumped.

Thanks man. I appreciate it.

But I'm looking for the actual wiring diagram. That shows every single wire in the bike. Like the one I attached. It's just so grainy when printed out.

For example... BR goes to BW. Black with red tracer being BR. black with white tracer being BW. Except the scan is so grainy the R's look like W's and vice versa. With all the letters.

Thanks again.

This should work. Save to your computer and save for future use.

I couldn't ask for a more clear and precise diagram. I hope it lines up and agrees. My 1400 is a 90. But so far it looks very similar.

But wow... just wow. Color coded too. Un real man. Very nice. Thank you! !

I'm not sure but I don't think the 90 had the wire for the prime function on it. it is the extra wire from the clutch switch to the fuel pump relay.

outside of that it should be pretty close.

Yeah my bike has two wires from the clutch switch and according to both diagrams they go to the same things. Fuel pump relay and decompression controller.

The only difference I see so far is the legend u gave shows more color combinations than the 1990 diagram.

Huge help.

Glad to help.

It took me a little while because I was using photobucket to host my pics. They went crazy on us and want $400 a year for 3rd party hosting, be damned if I will.

Had to download pic from PB to computer, find another host (imgur), figure out how it works, and then post the pic.

So as far as the clutch safety goes... my bike has no switch. Just a direct wire bunch going into a bracket type thing.... there's no real "switch"

Do I Unscrew The Bracket the wires run Into?

Remove the 2 screws....the slider is the switch.

You keep your bike inside the house? I keep wanting to bring mine in, but it's like banging my head against a brick wall discussing it with my wife. Women just don't appreciate things like that, or even quality farts for that matter. ;IDunno:

I'll give it a try and hopefully it'll fix the finicky start issue.

And lmfao it's it the basement actually. That couch from 1984 wouldn't fit through any doors. No loss there.

By the way. . Anyone looking for a couch? Hahaha

The picture you posted shows the switch...its the small plastic object that is attached with the two screws. If you remove the hand lever, you will see the tang that the lever moves to operate the switch. Also, the issue could be that the lever is not engaging that tang, which means the switch is not being operated with level movement.
