I suspect you haven't used a gel battery yet. Unless an Absorbant Glass Mat battery (AGM) is gel which I don't believe it is.
infact agm and gel are different technologies. gel battery are much more delicate than traditional battery..
imho AGM batteries are really worth the expense

:soda: Good idea to keep a large pack of Duracell D batteries just in case battery gives out.

Depends on battery and if you're using it or not for extended periods of time.
