Front Brake Caliper Upgrade! - Tokico 6-pot

Just wanted to share a modification I just made to my 93 VS1400. I replaced the stock front caliper with a Tokico 6 piston caliper
from a 1999 Kawasaki ZX6R. The modification requires an adapter to relocate the top mounting hole. I purchased mine through
Winters Machining LLC. I purchased a used front right caliper off ebay. There are several manufacturers who used this caliper, so
there are plenty of used ones available. I did run into one issue. There are at least two versions of this Tokico caliper, one has all
six pistons the same diameter (mine) and the other has four the same and two small ones. I found this out when I bought the
first rebuild kit. I did have one problem with the install. While bleeding the brakes, it was taking much longer than expected. I finally
realized the pistons were not coming out and contacting the pads. I had pushed the pistons all the way in during the rebuild and once
I pulled them out a little everything worked out great. I kept the stock master cylinder and it has better feel than before the modification. This is my first post and the main reason I am doing this is because the improved braking was significant. I am impressed
with the added stopping power and feel much safer if I need to stop suddenly. I hope this will help someone else.

Thanks for sharing - a 6 piston caliper will be far better than a 2 piston one. The pad surface area alone will dicate this.

A lot of calipers from mag wheel bikes do not fit spoke wheel bikes as they can foul on the spokes.

I'm just waiting for the spring to do that up grade i want to have a ride with the old brakes and new back to back. I collected all the parts except the brake lines going with SS lines. What banjo angle did you use at the caliper?

Not to bring up a too old post but I finally did the Winters 6 pot up grade. Wow! What difference. If anyone wants to know 38" Russell SS line, one straight banjo, one 35° banjo, one new 10mm ×1.25 banjo bolt and 4 crush washers. I have a S83 2007 with stock drag bars. Easy install and just a little hassle bleeding the line but wow is it worth it!

You think that was bas mine went to California through Colorado from Michigan to get to Canada.

Doesn't sound right. Probably other things wrong with his bike that the extra brake power exacerbated the problem. There's a ton of bikes out there with single discs and none of them have this issue.

My GS550 started pulling to the right when the front brake was applied. Upon inspection the front wheel bearings were worn and allowing the wheel to move out of line about 1/16th of an inch.

It happened so slowly that I didn't notice it until it got pretty bad and started a really odd wear pattern on the front tire.
